FirstLight Fiber: Q1 2015 Recap

It has been a busy quarter for FirstLight! We’re pleased to share with you some of our company growth highlights as we successfully wrap up Q1, and head into Q2.

We got off to a great start in January by installing a Point of Presence (Pop) at 325 Hudson. 325 Hudson is 325Hudsonnow FirstLight’s primary PoP in New York City, extending network reach for our customers. FirstLight’s network is strategically connected to key gateway cities, such as NYC, Boston and Montreal, enabling businesses located in Tier 2-4 markets to have the same level of access they would if they were located in Tier 1 cities. The decision to establish a presence in 325 Hudson truly enhances our customers’ connection opportunities.

Net Neutrality and FirstLight

netnuetralitypanelWith the historic FCC ruling to approve strong net neutrality rules confirmed on February 26, 2015, our President and CEO, Kurt Van Wagenen, was a featured panelist at a tech policy event in Washington DC, along with Google Fiber and other ISP heads.  During this session, Van Wagenen made it clear that FirstLight will continue to invest in its network infrastructure.  (Read full article here.)

Focus on FirstLight’s Data Centers

Manchester, NY Data Center
Manchester, NY Data Center

In 2015, one of our priorities is to create more market awareness of FirstLight’s premium colocation offering, made available via our own data centers located in Upstate New York, Vermont and New Hampshire. With the acquisition of G4 Communications’ assets in late 2014, FirstLight’s total number of network data centers increased to a total of five.  Including:

The latest addition in Manchester, NH helps bolster our data center presence and enhances our colocation service offering.

Data Center Open Houses

Williston, VT Open House

In early February, the FirstLight team hosted a successful open house at our Williston, VT data center. Customers, local businesses, community members and the media turned out to tour the facility, while enjoying food, drinks, and quality networking. At the open house, the FirstLight team addressed questions on the Williston, VT data center, as well as on FirstLight as a whole. We feel it is important for local businesses to understand how data center services can propel their businesses, and that there are quality data centers nearby and readily accessible.

Manchester, NH Open House

We are excited for our upcoming Open House at our Manchester facility.  This exclusive event is by invitation only and is scheduled for May 5th (Cinco de Mayo).  As with the Williston, VT Open House, we are inviting our customers, local businesses, community members and media to tour the facility. This facility is conveniently located minutes from Manchester Airport, less than an hour drive from Boston and is in the key telecommunications facility serving Southern NH.  The event details can be found here.
