In honor of Women’s History Month

Maura Mahoney
Chief Marketing Officer

During my ten years at FirstLight, I have had the privilege to work for a company whose culture is to encourage employees to share ideas and that values diverse perspectives. Working for an organization that ensures that women have the same opportunities as men is critical to ensure you have a chance to continue grow in your career and know that your voice is heard.

Women in this industry have historically been underrepresented so it makes it important that when you work with a talented individual that you support them. It is also important to join organizations and support STEM initiatives that support women in telecommunications. I am proud to share the experiences of the many female executives at FirstLight during Women’s History Month and honored to mentor the next generation of women in technology.

I am proud to be a female sales leader at FirstLight. I made a concerted effort to work at FirstLight because I saw the commitment of the company in recognizing and celebrating strong women in leadership roles. My ideas and perspectives are valued, and my strengths & experience differentiate me in the wholesale space. My goal is to empower other women to find their voice and rise above any obstacles that they may encounter. The things that make you different are often the things that make you most valuable.

A lack of workplace flexibility to balance career and personal responsibilities has often been cited as a barrier that limits professional women from advancing in the workplace. FirstLight has consistently scored higher than industry average for workplace flexibility and has been named a Top Workplace on a national level two years in a row. I’m proud to work for a company that strategically builds flexibility and above-market paid time off into its benefit package and culture, understanding historic barriers and seeking to be part of the solution that helps women overcome hurdles to top leadership positions.

FirstLight Fiber is a great place for women to work! Flexibility is a fantastic aspect of our workplace culture which means I can have a career and still be present for my family.

There are many reasons why I choose FirstLight as my career destination. One fundamental reason was FirstLight’s commitment to workplace gender diversity and belief that this is a key to our organization’s success.

FirstLight’s growth is focused on putting the customer first. How we develop and implement the customer journey comes from the enablement of diverse ideas and capturing the best of breeds. The inclusion of varying ideas and perspectives are fundamental to successful execution. I am very lucky to be surrounded by some of the top female leaders in our industry and to work for an organization that encourages varying perspectives to ensure success.
