What a great week it has been for FirstLight! As we wrap up another successful COMPTEL PLUS Spring event, we are pleased to note all of the exciting news announcements we have made this week.
First, we are pleased to announce that we have upgraded the FirstLight Core IP Network! The upgrade will further support area businesses demanding high quality Internet connectivity. With this upgrade, we have enhanced our high performance, carrier-grade, regional network creating an Internet service that is uniquely different. Unlike other Internet networks, the FirstLight IP network is architected in a way that allows our customers to directly connect to popular, highly trafficked sites resulting in fewer hops and an improved experience. In fact, 50% of all Internet traffic on the FirstLight network is directly connected to the ultimate destination, reducing latency.
Second, FirstLight President & CEO Kurt Van Wagenen was reelected to the COMPTEL Board! Congratulations, Kurt! He also served as a wonderful panelist on Mergers and Acquisitions at the event.
On Tuesday, we made two announcements. One, we have enhanced our Carrier Ethernet Service Platform and are now offering industry standard compliant Ethernet Access service across our entire footprint. Ethernet Access service is an increasingly popular Carrier Ethernet 2.0 solution that enables service providers to seamlessly leverage the networks of regional, fiber-based networks to extend their reach and serve customers’ remote locations.
Two, we are excited to collaborate with BayRing Communications, a New England-based Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) that has chosen our Metro Ethernet solutions to further extend its network reach, while we utilize BayRing’s dark fiber network in specific areas to extend our own reach. We are working together with BayRing to enhance our respective capabilities within the regional markets we serve for businesses throughout New England.
