FirstLight Fiber provides large (think 190,000 fiber miles) optic networks in Upstate New York and Northern New England and has been steadily growing in the past few years, having acquired segTel and TelJet. With these acquisitions came new services, added team talent and new customer segments, which all lead to the need to rebrand.
How do you know FirstLight? Well if you attended the sold-out FarmAid 2013 benefit concert this year, you can thank them for donating the 100 Mbps. Internet connection that was used during the 25,000-plus-attendee event.
“Our new brand is an integral step in the continued advancement of our Company, and adopting the name of our fiber network is a significant way to highlight all of FirstLight’s capabilities,” stated Kevin O’Connor, chief executive officer of FirstLight Fiber, which owns it’s own fiber optic network in order to provide a higher quality of service.
O’Connor hopes the new brand will reflect its strong fiber optic network, rapidly expanding network (it now serves 1300 lit buildings in NY, NH, ME, VT and MA) and future outside of the Tech Valley region.
The company keeps announcing amazing news as 2013 winds down, including it’s recent success in providing a major U.S.-based wireless carrier with its Ethernet-based infrastructure to support the carrier’s 4G rollout through northern New England.
