In 2017, a lot of exciting changes happened at FirstLight. Mergers with Oxford Networks and Sovernet Communications have enabled us to add to our already extensive fiber optic network, making us one of the leading fiber-based providers in the Northeast.

The New Year kicks off with our customers benefitting from the integration of FingerFingerLakes FirstLight Lakes Technologies Group (FLTG). Our current and prospective customers can look forward to a more extensive network and broader product portfolio. Acquiring FLTG expands our technology expertise and also gives our clients more options for secure data center/colocation facilities.

An Ideal Partner for FirstLight

The FLTG acquisition makes sense because its specializations perfectly align with FirstLight’s. Like FirstLight, FLTG has extensive experience with VoIP, unified communications, networking, Internet, cloud, and colocation facilities and services.

FLTG complements FirstLight by offering network assessment and evaluation services. FLTG can also perform security analyses and implement data security measures, such as intrusion detection and prevention, access control, and authentication. FLTG legacy customers benefit from additional robust ‘as-a-service’ cloud offerings.

Extending Our Reach

Acquiring FLTG gives our clients access to almost 2,500 more route miles of privately owned fiber optic network. This additional network mileage extends into New York and Pennsylvania, offering our customers superior connectivity and data protection. As a result, FirstLight now provides fiber-optic data, Internet, data center cloud, managed and voice services to enterprise and carrier customers in nearly 8,000 locations in service with an additional 25,000 locations serviceable by our more than 14,000 route mile fiber network.

Deepening Our Expertise

FirstLight’s acquisition of FLTG will strengthen our team of technology experts, as we gain expertise from our Cisco Premier Partner career-certified employees. Members of the FLTG team have specialized certifications in Cisco solutions, including networking, Cisco IP, Cisco Unity, cloud, and hybrid IT management. FLTG’s certifications grant our customers access to Cisco’s solutions for voice over internet protocol (VoIP) and unified communications. Cisco Premier Partner status also means that FLTG’s team has a proven track record of customer satisfaction.

Providing a Fortress for Your Data

FirstLight already boasts 11 data centers/colocation facilities throughout the Northeast that are available for colocation sites. With the FLTG acquisition, we will be able to offer our clients even more options.

One of our new colocation sites is housed in the former Seneca Army Depot. The FirstLight Tech Park colocation facility is weather-resilient and bombproof and features iron doors, steel outer cages, 13-foot ceilings, and 4-foot concrete walls. Now your business can house backup and recovery resources in a bunker, safe from malicious intrusions or natural disasters.

Your Company Grows With Us

FirstLight’s President and CEO, Kurt Van Wagenen, expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition: “The FLTG transaction is yet another positive step forward for the company that accelerates our long-term growth objectives to increase fiber density and continually enhance our capabilities to the benefit of our enterprise and carrier customers.”

Your company can become part of this new era in FirstLight’s strong history. When your company partners with FirstLight, you reap the rewards of our constant efforts to improve our services and offer more and better resources to our customers. As technology and communications evolve and create new challenges, FirstLight also evolves to meet these challenges. Our recent spate of acquisitions is evidence of that commitment to growth and change.
